Cleansing the body of toxins according to Ayurveda

Toxins and slags… Who does not know these two frightening words that often explain many diseases and disorders in the body? Most often, slagging is understood as the accumulation in tissues and internal organs of harmful substances that disrupt metabolic processes and have a toxic effect on the human body. And what does Ayurveda say about toxins and toxins?

The Ayurvedic approach assumes that along with purely “biological” types of pollution arising from poor ecology, low-quality food products, as a result of non-compliance with the diet and principles of nutrition, which are considered optimal for a particular body constitution, there are also more subtle, internal reasons. No less than a person is polluted by unfavorable psycho-emotional states, blocking of negative emotions, constant stress and internal fears that can destroy the subtle body and lead to a number of diseases. Thus, Ayurveda says that only a holistic approach, involving a comprehensive and regular cleansing of not only the body, but also the mind and consciousness, can lead to a complete recovery of the body.

Whatever cleansing Ayurvedic procedures are discussed, they are always based on the idea that when trying to eliminate an imbalance in one part of the body, it is important not to unbalance the energies in another. Only such therapy, which does not disturb the balance in the body tissues (dhatu), secretions (mala) and the harmonious functioning of the excretory channels (shrot), can cleanse the human body gently, efficiently and without harm to his health.

There are several types of cleansing practices in Ayurveda. The first group includes techniques and methods that are used at home (these are special nutrition systems, adherence to the daily regimen, taking Ayurvedic drugs, etc.). The second group includes those types of therapy that should be carried out strictly under the supervision of a qualified doctor (Panchakarma). Independent cleansing techniques are not suitable for everyone and should be selected individually and taking into account a wide range of factors: the individual constitution of the body, the type of slagging and existing imbalances in the body.

The Ayurvedic approach to the elimination of toxins and toxins is complex and aimed at strengthening the natural cleansing mechanisms of the human body. The lifestyle of a modern city dweller, constant stress, seasonal and climatic fluctuations contribute to the formation of ama, and therefore cleansing procedures are recommended for everyone in the off-season. Especially effectively toxins are removed from the body in the spring, when all forces in nature are directed to renewal and purification. It is not recommended to focus on the improvement of only one organ: the liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, etc., as this will not bring a lasting effect. It is best to conduct a comprehensive detoxification of the body at all levels from mental to physical.

Symptoms of slagging of the body: causeless drowsiness, loss of strength, lack of clarity of consciousness, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract (constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, bloating), heaviness in the body, increased levels of mucus (chronic runny nose, etc.), mental and physical exhaustion, lack of appetite, skin rashes, dry mouth, whitish coating on the tongue in the morning, feverish conditions, muscle weakness, nausea.
Regular exercise, combined with a healthy daily routine and diet, is a good way to prevent the accumulation of ama in the body, as well as to remove toxins from tissues and organs. Emphasize those types of physical activity that improve digestion and the functioning of the excretory systems. Walks in the fresh air, sets of exercises that harmonize the level of Kapha, Vata and Agni, as well as pranayama classes will help to avoid accumulations of ama and enhance the detoxification effect during cleansing procedures. At the time of carrying out certain cleansing procedures, intense physical exertion should be avoided. Regular oil massage or self-massage (abhyanga) helps to eliminate toxins from the body. Cleansing massages will bring the greatest effect if carried out in the morning. Use only high-quality, natural herbal or plant-based oils, selected individually by your Ayurvedic doctor. You can enhance the effect of massage by taking a warm bath with the addition of herbal decoctions and essential oils.
