Why obesity is bad for the kidneys.

Obesity contributes to kidney damage at the cellular level, Japanese scientists have found.

Researchers from the Shiga Prefectural University of Health Sciences conducted a study on laboratory mice and concluded that obesity inhibits cellular processes that protect kidney cells from damage (autophagy). Scientists believe that this happens because food sensory signaling pathways are pathologically activated in obesity.

At the same time, the experiment showed that by restoring the disturbed cellular processes, it is possible to ensure the normal functioning of the kidneys in obesity.
