Overweight and hormonal imbalance.

It happens that proper nutrition and exercise do not help to get rid of excess weight. Perhaps the cause of the spoiled figure in hormones?

Traditionally, overeating and a sedentary lifestyle are considered the main causes of overweight. But in medical practice, there are often patients who monitor their diet and go in for sports, but cannot lose weight. In such cases, doctors look for a hormonal imbalance that is behind the weight gain. Excess or deficiency of hormones provokes a failure in metabolism, and body fat accumulates.

metabolic syndrome. It is characterized by hyperinsulism. Insulin lowers blood sugar levels and delays the breakdown of fat. As a result, after eating a person is still hungry, and weight loss diets do not help.

Hypercortisolism. With this disease, there is an excessive production of glucocorticoid hormones by the adrenal cortex. Obesity often develops as a result of prolonged treatment with corticosteroid drugs. The disease is also accompanied by metabolic disorders, increased blood glucose levels, arterial hypertension, sexual dysfunction, decreased immunity, and heart failure.
Low testosterone levels in men. It is known that testosterone regulates sexual function, but it is also responsible for burning fat and building muscles in the body of men. For diagnosis, a blood test is prescribed for the level of testosterone and luteinizing hormone.

High prolactin levels. This leads to a decrease in the concentration of sex hormones and slows down the basal metabolism.

Syndrome of hyperandrogenism. A common cause of hormonal obesity among women. The causes of the imbalance of androgen hormones in the female body are ovarian tumors, tumors of the adrenal glands, disorders in the central nervous system as a result of past infections or intoxications. Other symptoms of hyperandrogenism are a rash on the face, hair loss on the head, excessive hair on the arms and legs. Diagnosis is based on the results of tests for prolactin, insulin and cortisol.

Pathology of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. It is associated with endocrine or metabolic disorders. The causes of the pathology are head injuries and the habit of overeating. The disease develops against the background of dysfunction of the center regulation of eating behavior in the hypothalamus, which leads to excessive food intake. Other symptoms are headache, thirst, fatigue, sleep disturbance. Blue-purple stretch marks appear on the chest, hips, and abdomen. Pathologies can be accompanied by hypothyroidism and diabetes insipidus.
HOW DOES OVERWEIGHT AFFECT HORMONES?

In turn, excess weight also affects the balance of hormones. In particular, adipose tissue in the abdomen is hormonally active. It interferes with the action of insulin, which causes blood sugar levels to rise. Also, adipose tissue affects the production of the hormone leptin, and its excess is fraught with pressure surges.
Excess weight affects the balance of hormones responsible for sexual and reproductive function. The hormone leptin blocks the synthesis of testosterone. In men, the consequences of this are problems in intimate life. In overweight women, testosterone levels are several times higher than normal, which increases the risk of menstrual irregularities, infertility and pregnancy complications.

HOW TO TREAT “HORMONAL” OVERWEIGHT?

In addition to treating the underlying disease that provoked weight gain, exercise therapy, diet therapy and various types of physiotherapy are of great importance. These include ozone therapy, hydrotherapy, mud therapy, light therapy and others. These procedures help to normalize the functioning of the central nervous system, contribute to the neuroendocrine regulation of metabolism, and improve redox processes. All procedures should be carried out on the recommendation and under the supervision of a doctor.
