Whether to run in winter?

Running in winter should not be a spontaneous decision, you need to thoroughly prepare for it. It is best to start jogging in the warm season, but if you wish, you can start even in January, the main thing is to follow all the rules. Instead of wondering “is it possible to run in winter”, just try it, because if this activity is to your liking, you will not be able to refuse it.

In order to run in winter, you need to have a strong immune system. Cardio load at low temperatures is a serious test for the body. Try to gradually accustom yourself to the cold, choosing at first the warmest days. If the temperature outside is -15 degrees, then running in winter is not recommended. Forget about jogging even if you feel unwell, the initial symptoms of a cold or flu.

To prepare the body for the cold, do hardening. Start with a low-amplitude contrast shower and gradually move on to dousing with cold water. Such a habit, both mentally and physically, will help you start running in the winter.

Precautionary measures
You can run in winter only by observing special precautions, otherwise you risk at least getting sick, and at the maximum – getting seriously injured. Pay attention to your breathing, in order to properly run outdoors in winter, you need to inhale air only through your nose, otherwise you will come down with a cold the next day. If you can’t work with your nose, slow down, because not only the throat, but also the lungs are at risk of cooling. You can breathe out through your mouth and nose.

Decide in advance where to run in winter – it should be a route with as few icy areas as possible. Try to choose a cleared path, and by all means do a warm-up at home before jogging. Unheated muscles are much more at risk of hypothermia, the same applies to a hitch after a run. Calculate the running time so that at the end of it you immediately return to the heat, and not walk home for another half an hour.

What to run in winter?
In this matter, the choice of running shoes is extremely important. When deciding which shoes to run in in winter, pay attention to the sole – it should be soft, embossed and certainly resistant to low temperatures. If the sole hardens in the cold, these sneakers are not suitable. Another prerequisite is that shoes should not let water through. Wet feet are the last thing you need winter run time. So that your feet do not freeze, take care of your lower leg, sneakers should cover it too. You will also need replacement insoles.

When deciding what to run in in winter, do not forget about a special “balaclava” mask, it will come in handy in strong and medium winds. For lack of a mask, you can wrap your face with a scarf. The next item is thermal underwear, which you will wear under a tracksuit. It should be tight to the body, retain the heat you generate and allow moisture to pass through so that you do not sweat and catch a cold. It is better to choose a tracksuit fleece – it is a lightweight, breathable material that also retains heat. Wear a windproof and waterproof jacket over everything.
