Swimming keeps children safe

Often ill children (especially colds) are recommended to visit the pool at any time of the year. The development of the respiratory organs in childhood has certain features: a small child has a smaller chest, the respiratory muscles are weaker, he breathes more often than an adult. The respiratory tract of the child is still narrow, the mucous membrane is tender and more vulnerable, there are a large number of blood and lymphatic vessels in it and the walls of the respiratory tract, which explains the ease of penetration of the infection into the respiratory organs of children and the occurrence of inflammatory processes.

Swimming increases the body’s resistance to acute respiratory diseases. It has been noted that if “floating” children still have general respiratory diseases, they have a milder course, minimal duration, and complications develop less often. When swimming, breathing is more intense and deep, the nasal passages are washed out, congestion in the bronchi disappears, sputum is coughed up.

Swimming has a massaging effect on the body, irritates the nerve endings in the skin, improves metabolism, sleep, appetite, makes the nervous system more stable, trains the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, strengthens muscles, ligaments, and forms the correct posture.

Systematic swimming lessons improve the physical development of children. At the same time, compared with “non-swimming” children, weight and height indicators, lung capacity and strength indicators increase, and the neuropsychic development of the child improves.

In the cold season, it is important not to rush outside after exercising in the water, to dry your hair, ears, and skin properly. It is advisable to give the child warm tea with cookies or a sandwich after class – then he will definitely not freeze and get sick!
