Nutrition for nursing mothers

Almost all women are capable of breastfeeding. In rare cases of severe illness, the mother has to stop breastfeeding. In order for there to be no problems with lactation, and milk to meet all the necessary requirements, a rational organization of the daily regimen and nutrition is required even during pregnancy.

As a rule, no special measures need to be taken in the first half of pregnancy, it is only important to take care of your health and the health of your unborn baby, get plenty of rest and walk, eat only healthy and fortified food.

In the second half of pregnancy – a period of intensive fetal growth – a woman’s need for essential nutrients increases, which she must provide to her baby. Therefore, in the second half, it is so necessary to place special emphasis on foods rich in proteins and trace elements. Doctors recommend eating at least 500 ml of fermented milk products, 200 g of cottage cheese, 500 g of vegetables and 300 g of fruit per day. If it is necessary to greatly increase the introduction of protein into the body, then special dry milk mixtures for pregnant women can be used. The fact is that the development of the child has a direct effect on lactation. In order for all the necessary changes to occur in the female body, nutrients, vitamins, and hormones are required. If all this is not enough for the baby, then there will be no more left to prepare the woman for lactation. Therefore, it is so important to optimize the nutrition of a woman in the second half of pregnancy.

The diet of a nursing woman should include foods such as cheese, cottage cheese and condensed milk. A lot of protein, so necessary for both mother and child, is found in meat and nuts. These foods should be eaten daily, like fruits and vegetables, because they contain natural vitamins and minerals.

A nursing mother should eat more often than an ordinary woman, because, as they say, she eats for two. It is recommended to drink water or tea immediately before feeding. The diet should include a wide variety of foods, it should not be monotonous. It is believed that no products other than alcohol affect the taste of milk. It often happens that within 10-14 days after childbirth, the mother cannot eat much, as much as she should. It is not worth capturing yourself in such a situation, you need to eat as much as you want.

As a rule, to In the middle of the first month after the birth of a child, a woman begins to have an appetite. Almost all doctors advise to eat and drink as needed, not to limit yourself. But in everything there must be a reasonable measure. As for the cooking method, here preference is given to boiled, stewed and steamed dishes. Spicy, pickled, smoked foods are excluded. It is recommended to consume fruits and vegetables in large quantities, but this applies to fresh, not canned foods. Approximate weight norm of products for a nursing woman per day:

milk and dairy products (up to 1 liter); vegetables and fruits;

Dyes, preservatives, allergens, fatty foods, concentrates, hot spices and sauces, marinades, carbonated drinks, cucumbers and others are undesirable vegetables and fruits (cabbage, peas, radishes, grapes), as these products actively contribute to gas formation in the intestines, rich meat and fish broths, creams, cakes, pastries, chocolates, caviar, smoked meats.

Remember also that in the pursuit of restoring the previous weight, in no case should you go on a diet. After all, excluding this or that product from your diet, you are depriving your baby of many useful substances. Do not feed your baby with “empty milk”, feed him good, complete and tasty natural food so that he grows up beautiful and healthy.

Remember also that by eating fatty foods, you can increase the fat content of milk for the worse. 11% fat in milk is constant, and you can increase the fat content in such a way that this will only lead to constipation in the baby, because his body is tuned to a certain composition of mother’s milk, he does not need more fat. Therefore, in order to feed and lose weight, your diet must include a complete protein and carbohydrate meal, and it is recommended to eat less fat, while giving preference to vegetable oils. Thus, against the background of breastfeeding, you can really lose weight and gain!
