20 Ayurvedic recommendations for weight loss

If you are struggling with excess weight, then it is most likely that, in anticipation of noticeable results, you have tried all the most popular methods with dismal results. We have put together 20 Ayurvedic recommendations that will naturally guide you towards overall healthy weight loss without the use of chemicals, processed foods or extreme diets.

1. Wake up before dawn

Waking up early around 5-6 am boosts your energy levels and helps reduce ama (toxins).

2. Drink a glass of hot water with a lemon wedge

A glass of hot water with lemon in the morning cleanses the digestive tract of metabolic waste.

3. Cleanse your nasal passages with warm salt water in the morning.

Use a special “neti pot” to rinse your nose with warm salt water every morning. This is great for relieving sinus congestion and associated headaches.

4. Brush your skin every morning

Washing with a massage brush every morning improves blood circulation and allows you to get rid of toxins.

5. Massage under the chest with sesame oil

Massage with a little sesame oil under the ribcage helps improve digestion.

6. Massage Your Head With Coconut Oil

An energizing scalp massage with coconut oil sharpens the senses and hydrates the hair.

7. Add 30 minutes of exercise and yoga in the morning or throughout the day

Get exercise (running, swimming, cycling) or yoga every morning and evening. This will improve the balance, flexibility and endurance of your body.

8. Practice Pranayama for at least 10 minutes

Pranayama breathing practice will help to increase energy levels, balance thoughts, adjust the stomach and improve digestion.

9. Take time to meditate

20-30 minutes of meditation in the morning and evening improves mental clarity and increases energy levels.

10. Don’t skip meals and only eat when you’re hungry.

When you skip a meal, the digestive system cannot fully function. Proper metabolism requires three meals and two snacks. Also avoid eating after 7 pm.

11. Avoid incompatible foods in the same meal

When two or three foods that are different in composition, taste, energy, or digestive effect are combined, then the digestive fire (agni) can become overloaded and prevent the formation of enzymes. As a result, toxins are formed in the body.

12. Start every meal with a piece of ginger

A small amount of pickled ginger before eating food improves digestion.

13. Drink warm water with meals

Warm water can enhance weight loss by stimulating the metabolism. Regular consumption of it improves kidney function, blood sugar regulation and reduces sugar cravings.

14. Eat your heaviest meal in the middle of the day and make dinner light and easy to digest.

New research states that 2-3 meals per day is the optimal amount of food to maintain an ideal weight, avoid disease and increase life expectancy.

15. Include ghee in your diet

Ayurveda considers ghee to be special because it is the only fat that enhances the digestive fire. It is also gentle enough to penetrate deep into body tissues, increasing their lubrication and reducing inflammation.

16. Eat Foods Made with Natural Healthy Ingredients

Cooked food is believed to enhance agni (digestive fire), which is especially important for the digestive process.

17. Breathe the steam for 10 minutes

Do a 10-minute steam inhalation once or twice a week with eucalyptus oil. This is especially helpful for sinus congestion or respiratory allergies.

18. Drink a glass of carrot, beetroot, and cucumber juice.

Take fresh carrot juice (300 ml), beetroot (100 ml) and cucumber (100 ml) with 1-2 teaspoons of udo oil for breakfast. This drink can also be taken early in the morning or before afternoon tea.

19. Take chyawanprash twice a day

Chyawanprash is a wonderful immune booster. It contains a lot of vitamin C and other antioxidants.

20. Take triphala before bed

Triphala tablets at bedtime help cleanse the digestive tract.
