The mechanism of smoking as an element of addiction formation

During the year, more than 5 million people die from tobacco smoking in the world, closer to 2030 this number may increase by several million more. People who smoke rarely think about the concept of “the mechanism of smoking” without delving into the basics of addiction formation associated with this concept.

There are several types of smoking mechanism. One of them is the psychological mechanism. Often smoking is a way to get away from life’s problems, specific tasks. Very often, the process of smoking accompanies situations of boredom, waiting, and inaction. Nervous, a person tries to calm down through cigarettes. Inhaling deeper and deeper, he tries to pull himself together, not thinking about the consequences.

The mechanism of smoking Time passes and the “false sense of calm” becomes the norm, turning into a conditioned reflex. It becomes more and more difficult for a person to do without a cigarette, especially in moments of nervous tension. Thus, at the initial stage, the process of smoking becomes, as it were, a kind of tool for improving the psycho-emotional state of a person. Over time, it develops into a bad habit.

There is also a chemical-physical mechanism of smoking, which looks something like this: a smoker inhales air through smoldering tobacco, combustion intensifies due to the oxygen contained in the air, and substances released during combustion (solid particles, liquid drops) enter the lungs. Some of these products are absorbed into the blood, and the rest is deposited in the alveoli.

Initially, such smoking, which seems rare for a person, becomes the initial stage of persistent nicotine addiction. The mechanism of addiction to nicotine is as follows: the substances that enter the bloodstream are carried throughout the body. After a very short time (several minutes), nicotine reaches the brain and stimulates their activity for a short time. In this case, the blood vessels of the brain expand, and the released ammonia irritates the nerve endings of the respiratory tract. At the same time, a person experiences a feeling of energy, a surge of strength, it is similar to a short-term relaxation. However, not everything is so simple and literally after a few minutes the reverse process occurs: the vessels narrow, brain activity decreases, and the smoker gets a feeling of depression, which forces him to take up a cigarette again in order to return favorite feelings. This is how addiction is formed.

Many people know what this is fraught with, but they cannot cope with the problem. Nevertheless, once again puffing on a cigarette, one should think about whether it is worth risking one’s own life?!
