Duration sleep: how much do you need?

Sleep is a physiological process that is an integral part of our life. It plays a major role in the process of replenishment of energy by the body.
Sleep deprivation and excess sleep can lead to serious illnesses, and, first of all, affect mental health. It is known that lack of sleep is more dangerous for our health than its excess.

The number of hours needed for healthy sleep will be individual for each person, and depends on various factors – age, gender, health status.

So how do you know how many hours of sleep you need?

There are general guidelines for calculating the amount of sleep you need. However, it is worth remembering that they are designed for a healthy, average person.

If your job is physically demanding, you need more sleep. Women, due to the characteristics of the body, need a little more sleep than men. Children need 10-12 hours of sleep per night, teenagers need 8-10 hours.

Adults need 5-8 hours of sleep, and the elderly sometimes only need a few hours of sleep per day.

If you wake up in the morning with a clear mind, full of freshness and strength, then this means that you have slept exactly as much as your body needs.

If you got up with a “heavy” head and you don’t feel like doing anything, then most likely you have abused an hour or two of sleep.

In order to “catch” the duration of sleep you need, get up every day 15 minutes earlier. And when you feel light and in a good mood after waking up, know that this is “your” time.

But remember that if you are sick, experienced unusual physical activity the day before, or simply went to bed at the wrong time, you will need more hours of sleep in order to restore your physical strength and emotional balance.
