How to improve memory and concentration?

Memory and concentration are closely related to each other. Often the cause of poor memory is blamed on memory impairment, when in fact there are simply concentration problems. Consider tips to help improve concentration and memory.

Memory and concentration must interact.

Attention training is the easiest way to better and faster memorization. Memory and concentration must interact in order for us to effectively remember what we want. Very often we fail to remember, not because there is something wrong with our memory, but because we are not properly focused on the task or action we are performing. By not putting in the effort, by doing many things at once, or by doing them automatically, we just don’t supply our brain with enough information to keep everything in memory.

As a result, often lack of attention is associated with poor memory. How often it happens that we are unable to remember where we put the keys or a mobile phone, and we complain that we have a bad memory, but at the same time we forget that we did not even look where we put them, throwing them anywhere. This lack of concentration, doing things without much thought, often makes it so that we cannot extract important information from our own head.

Therefore, if you want to remember better, you must first of all work on concentration. Unfortunately, it takes effort, constant attention, and you can’t afford to do many things at once, or make your life easier by doing many things automatically without thinking.

Of course, both memory and the ability to focus attention on the activity being performed (concentration) are largely dependent on the general state of our mind, which is influenced by many factors. The main ones are:

• A balanced diet – appropriate nutrition can significantly improve our memory and concentration,

• physical exercises,

• cognitive stimulation (mental) – you need to accustom your brain to constant effort – the mind and memory just need to be trained to be constantly in shape,

• stress management,

• social obligations,

• social activity, the presence of other people, their impact and stimulation is simply necessary for your brain and memory to work as follows.

How to improve concentration?

1. Focus on the task.

Learn to give yourself completely and completely to one task that you are currently doing. If this is a conversation, don’t let yourself be distracted, but try to get to the heart of it and its purpose. If you need to write an article, don’t let anything distract you until it’s ready. It is important to be present in only one task at a time – this is the main secret to improving concentration.

2. Avoid any distractions.

Disable everything that does not apply to the current task. The more complex the task, the more important it is, and the more complex the problem, the more attention is required. One of the main problems that you may encounter is procrastination, that is, the tendency to do everything but what you should. Do not allow yourself to do this, and very soon you will get rid of this bad habit.

3. Don’t do too many things at the same time.

Multitasking is, above all, ideal conditions for making mistakes. Distracted attention is not at all good for our productivity and memory. Pay attention to how much energy and strength you have when you do one thing. By focusing on several things at the same time, in fact, you are devoting very little effort to each task.

How to improve memory?

Gather and focus.

The more personal the information is, the easier it is to remember. Watch your reactions. Try to find something in your life, your experience that you can associate with new data, maybe you have heard something similar, maybe new information evokes some emotions in you. Remember when you felt the same way?

Repeat information.

The more often you repeat information, the better you remember it. In rapid learning methods, the so-called planned repetition method is widely used, which emphasizes the repetition of material at certain intervals. In a nutshell, it works best if you repeat new knowledge half an hour later, the next day, and after a week.

Think about what you have learned.

Parse the information received, first of all, try to really understand the importance of the knowledge that you are trying to remember. Don’t mindlessly repeat what you’ve learned, but try turning your head around a bit first. Knowledge is like food. It is better to “chew” it so that it can be “digested”. The information must be properly stored in memory. Do not treat your memory like a trash can – throwing everything in it anyhow and anywhere, and it will serve you well and long.
