Aerial yoga. Advantages and disadvantages

Aero yoga is a new and unique yoga technique that takes classical hatha yoga to a distance of half a meter from the floor.

The uniqueness of Aero yoga lies in the use of the so-called “hammock” (a special fabric attached to the ceiling in the form of a swing), which allows you to raise the body above the floor and get an unforgettable experience during practice.
Many of the poses in Aero Yoga are designed to better understand what we are trying to achieve in traditional yoga practice. Aero yoga allows you to gain awareness in performing asanas already at the initial stages, due to the fact that part of the weight is supported by a hammock.
Aero yoga is not aerial acrobatics. This is an opportunity to make traditional yoga practice accessible to everyone. The hammock will become your assistant for performing inverted poses and safe backbends without squeezing the vertebrae. Thanks to the hammock, you will find yourself a short distance from the floor and will be able to feel the force of gravity. In aero yoga, gravity becomes an assistant for gentle stretching of the spine and the whole body.
Aero yoga allows you to get rid of stoop, tightness in the cervical region and chronic tension in the lower back.
During the class, classical asanas are mastered, their version is performed on a hammock, much attention is paid to pranayama (breathing exercises) and the general emotional mood.
Many more words can be said about the benefits of Aero Yoga, but words will remain just words. Aero yoga is something you need to try yourself! Yoga lovers can talk for hours about the virtues of this “sport” and how it helps to maintain perfect shape. Yoga itself is shrouded in a number of myths and attracts with its eccentricity, however, the new direction – aerial yoga – is unique in essence, because during classes you will have to … fly.

The growing popularity is explained by the fact that people of any age and without training can do aerial yoga. It doesn’t matter if you had a yoga experience, the main thing is to come to class and start conquering the earth’s gravity. And then you will suddenly find that you can achieve something that previously seemed almost impossible.

During training, a special hammock is used securely attached to the ceiling, thanks to which you can take all kinds of poses, including upside down, do stretches that allow you to relieve tension that has accumulated in body.

Aerial yoga uses Hatha yoga exercises. The hammock will only help you to perform some of them, as well as to take difficult postures such as inverted asanas. If you have done yoga before, then aerial yoga will allow you to gain new experience in familiar exercises and even better understand not only the direction itself, but also your own body.

Let’s figure out what belongs to the direction of the so-called anti-gravity yoga, which also includes restorative aerial yoga and anti-gravity Pilates. It combines the serenity of yoga with the grace of aerial gymnastics. Meditation and Savasana help to achieve a state of calm and confidence at the same time as exercises that give muscle tone while eliminating fat accumulation.

Restorative aerial yoga primarily involves stretching, which should restore the functions of the spine or eliminate the consequences of injuries. In addition, it is also suitable for people with disabilities. Anti-gravity Pilates combines exercises from the same direction and aerial yoga, due to which it is useful for the spine and training of certain muscle groups.
Aerial yoga helps to activate the circulatory system, improving, among other things, the blood supply to the brain. Inverted postures lead to an increase in the work of the pituitary gland and increased production of serotonin. As a result, you will feel a pleasant feeling of harmony, your mood and performance will improve. After just a few sessions, you will notice that nervousness and anger have receded, and an additional effect may even be an improvement in memory.

Staying upside down also eliminates the blood stasis that is common in people who spend a lot of time sitting at an office desk. Aeroyoga classes promote relaxation and rest, give a feeling of peace, help to cope with headaches and insomnia, are useful for breathing problems and diabetes, help the endocrine system, immunity and the fight against excess weight.

In addition to the “bouquet” of advantages, aerial yoga can be dangerous for people with certain health problems. Traumatic brain injuries, displaced vertebrae, varicose veins and hypertension will not allow you to do aerial yoga in a group.
If you experience severe discomfort, be sure to consult with doctor!!
