Concentration and meditation. Swami Sivananda

Padmasana with Gyanamudra, who is absolutely calm, endowed with such virtuous qualities as Yama, Nikma, etc., whose fame is as great as the glory of Lord Shiva, whose forehead is sprinkled with sacred ash, whose face is a blooming lotus, with lotus-like eyes; who holds the holy book in his hand; who is adored forever by people of high Knowledge and Wisdom and who fulfills the desires of those who prostrate before him (from Sanskrit).
I ALWAYS THINK
ABOUT ETERNAL PURITY, ALL-PENAVAVA OMKARA, WHICH VARIOUS SHRUTI CALL THE SOURCE AND SUPPORT OF VEDANTA, THE CAUSE OF CREATION, EXISTENCE AND DISAPPEARANCE OF THIS UNIVERSE. SHE IS THE SOUL OF THIS UNIVERSE, TRUTH, KNOWLEDGE AND INFINITY.
I'M THINKING
OVER DATTATREYA, THE SON OF ATRI, WHO HAS SIX HANDS, WHO HOLDS A GARLAND AND A MANDALA IN TWO HANDS, A DAMARU AND A TRISUL (trident) IN TWO HANDS, AND A SHELL AND DISC IN TWO UPPER HANDS (from Sanskrit).
I'm a bustard
LOOKING AT THE LOTUS AT THE FEET OF GANESHA, THE SON OF UMA, THE DESTROYER OF ALL SORRY, WHO IS SERVED BY MANY VIRGINS AND BHUTS (Elementals), WHO DRINKS THE JUICE OF THE FRUIT KARITHHA-JAMBU (fruit resembling a bilva or an apple with stones) (from Sanskrit).
I ALWAYS FIND
THE SHELTER OF THE SIX-FACED GOD GUHI, WHOSE SKIN IS DEEP RED, WHOSE KNOWLEDGE IS INFINITE, WHO RIDES A PEACOCK OF PARADISE, WHO IS THE SON OF GOD SHIVA, THE LEADER OF THE ARMY OF DEVINS. MAY PROTECT ME BY THE GODDESS SARASVATI, WITH A BEAUTIFUL FACE, WHO WEARS A GARLAND OF SNOW WHITE KUNDA FLOWERS, WHO WEARS PURE WHITE CLOTHES, WHO HOLDS SPRING AND DARADANANDA (substance that bestows bliss) WHO SIT ON WHITE; WHICH IS ADORED BY BRAHMA, ACHYUTA, SANKARA AND OTHERS AND WHICH IS THE CAUSE OF THE DISAPPEARANCE OF INTEREST AND LAZY (from Sanskrit).
I'M THINKING
About the goddess Lakshmi, who holds in the hands of a lotus, who is inherent in a cheerful disposition, who distributes fearlessness with both hands, which is decorated with various precious stones, which gives the desired fruits to his followers, who is adored by Hari, Shiva and Brahma, who is all the time surrounded by Shakti, and nearby THERE IS A SHELL AND A LOTUS (from Sanskrit).
NEED TO THINK
ABOUT SHRI RAMACANDRA, WHO IS SITTING IN THE CLOSED LOTUS POSTURE WITH HANDS ON KNEES AND HOLDING BOW AND ARROW, WHO IS DRESSED IN YELLOW, WHOSE EYES ARE LIKE LOTUS PETALS, WHOSE GAIT IS GRACEFUL; WHICH IS BLUE LIKE CLOUDS; WHICH IS DECORATED WITH ALL ORNAMENTS; ON THE HEAD OF WHICH IS A GREAT KRUT OF JATA, AND ON THE LEFT SIDE OF SITA (from Sanskrit).
I DO NOT KNOW
NOTHING HIGHER THAN KRISHNA WITH LOTUS-LIKE EYES, WHO HOLDS A FLUTE IN HIS HANDS, WHO LIKE A LARGE CLOUD DRESSED IN A SILK YELLOW ROBE; WHOSE LOWER LIP IS LIKE A BRIGHT RED VIMBA FRUIT AND A FACE SHINES LIKE A FULL MOON (Sanskrit).
I'M THINKING
ABOUT THE LOTUS AT THE FEET OF THE GODDESS GAYRITA, WHOSE FACE IS ILLUMINATED WITH CORAL PEARLS, GOLD, BLUE AND WHITE PRECIOUS STONES, WHO HAS THREE EYES; WHOSE CROWN IS DECORATED WITH PEARLS AND THE MOON; WHICH IS THE EMBODIMENT OF THE HOLY TRUTH AND DESIGNATES THE ESSENCE OF THE VED; WHOSE TWO HANDS DISTRIBUTE GIFTS AND FEARLESS, AND THE OTHER HOLD ANKUSA (trident), KASU (whip), SKULL, SPIDER, SHELL AND TWO WHITE LOTUS (from Sanskrit).
LET IT PROTECT ME
THE SUN GOD (Surya), the Eye of the World, WHO GIVES BLISS; WHICH LOVE GODS HARI, SHIVA and others; WHICH SHINES IN THE MOUNTAINS RISE HIGH; WHOSE CROWN IS DECORATED WITH SHINING PRECIOUS STONES; WHO DOMINATES THE PLANETS; WHICH PENETRATIONS THROUGH THE WHOLE UNIVERSE; WHOSE LIPS AND FINE HAIR SHINE LIKE A Glow; WHICH IS ENDOWED WITH DIVINE SPONCE (from Sanskrit).
I prostrate before the five-faced God PARVATI, WHO is adorned with all sorts of ornaments, WHO shines like a gem from Spatika, WHO sits peacefully in Padmasana; in a crown adorned with a sickle of the moon; with three eyes; holding a trident, Vajra, saber and ax on the right side and a snake, noose, ball, damra and spear on the left; who protects those who worship him from all fears.

Chapter I. The Theory of Concentration

1. What is concentration. Concentration is the mental fixation of an external object or an internal point. One day a Sanskrit scholar asked Kabir, "Oh Kabir! What are you doing now?" Kabir replied, "O Pandit, I separate the mind from worldly things and direct it towards the lotus at the feet of the Lord."
This is called concentration. Respectful conduct, Asanas, Pranayama and withdrawal of the mind from objects pave the way for rapid success in concentration.
Concentration is the Sixth Rung of the Yoga Ladder (Dhyana). It is impossible in the absence of an object on which to focus mind. A definite goal, interest, attention will bring success in concentration. Чувства отвлекают и беспокоят mind. If the mind is restless, then you cannot move forward. When the rays of the mind are brought into focus through exercise, the mind becomes concentrated and you get Ananda from within. Calm wandering thoughts and emotions!
You must have patience, invincible will and inexhaustible perseverance and exercise regularly. Otherwise, laziness and hostile forces will move you away from Lakshya. A well-trained mind can, if desired, be focused on any object inside or outside, to the exclusion of all other thoughts. Every person to some extent has the ability to focus his mind on certain objects or activities. But this is not enough for spiritual progress, and concentration must be brought to an infinitely high level of perfection.
With concentration, the brain should not experience tension. You don't have to fight with your mind. If the mind is full of passions and all kinds of fantastic desires, you will hardly be able to focus on any object even for 1 second. Chastity, Pranayama, seclusion, lessening needs, elimination of unnecessary activities, detachment from sense objects, silence, control of the senses, annihilation of lust, greed, anger, avoidance of foolish pastimes like reading newspapers and going to the cinema, all increase the power of concentration. Concentration is the only way to get rid of worldly misery and suffering. It purifies and calms the billowing waves of emotion, increases the flow of thought and clarifies ideas. First of all, purify the mind through Yama and Niyama. Concentration without purity is useless!
Properly performed Mantras and Pranayama will make the mind steady, eliminate interference and increase the power of concentration. Concentrate on any subject that attracts or pleases the mind the most. At first, the mind should be regularly trained on gross objects, and then it can be successfully concentrated on subtle objects and abstract ideas.
Rough forms. Focus with your eyes open on a black dot on a wall, a candle flame, a bright star, the moon, an image of AUM (Om) or God: Shiva, Rama, Krishna, Devi or your Ishtha Devata.
Refined forms. Sit in front of a picture of your Ishtha Devata and close your eyes. Place His mental picture in Trikuta or in the heart and focus on Muladhara, Anahata, Ajna or other Chakras; focus on Divine qualities: Love, Mercy or other abstract ideas.

2. What to focus on. Focus calmly on the lotus of the heart - Anahata Chakra, Trikuta or the tip of the nose. Close your eyes. The mind resides in the Ajna Chakra. It is easier to control if you focus on Trikuta. Bhaktas should concentrate on the heart, Yogis and Vedantists on the Ajna Chakra. You can also - on the top of the skull (Sahasrara Chakra). Yogis can contemplate the tip of the nose (Nasikagra Drishti).
Front view. Bhromadhya-drishti fixes the bridge of his nose with his eyes. The Ajna Chakra is located there. Sit in Padma or Siddhasaka in your meditation room and start practicing this kind of concentration, starting with half a minute and gradually working your way up to 30 minutes. When exercising, do not overwork.
This Kriya practiced by Yogis removes Vikshena (restless tossing of the mind) and promotes concentration. God Krishna prescribes this exercise in the Gita (Chapter V, Shloka 27): "Saprshan Kritva Bahir Bakhshy Shakshu Schaivantarek Bhruvoh" - "Remove contact with the outside world with your gaze fixed on the bridge of your nose."
The nasal gaze is called Nasikagra Drishti. Here the eyes are fixed on the tip of the nose. Even walking down the street, practice this look. God Krishna prescribes it in the Gita (ch. VI, Sloka 13): "Samprekshya Nasikagra" - "Looking at the tip of the nose, not allowing it to be distracted to the side." This exercise calms the mind and increases the power of concentration.
Raja Yogi focuses on Trikuta - Ajna Chakra - the bridge of the nose. It is said that the mind lives there in a waking state and is easily controlled. Very soon, perhaps in a day, you will see the light during this concentration. Whoever wants to meditate on Virat and also help the world should focus on this Chakra. Bhakta focuses on the heart, the seat of feelings and emotions. He reaches Ananda in a high degree.
Hatha Yogi focuses on the Sushumna Nadi, the middle passage of the spinal canal, as well as one of the following centers: Muladhara, Manipura and Ajna Chakra. Some Yogis ignore the lower Chakras and focus only on the Ajna Chakra. Control over it automatically subdues all other Chakras. When Yogi focuses on any Chakra, then at first a subtle connection is formed between the mind and this Chakra. The Yogi then ascends along the Sushumna from one Chakra to another. This uplift is gradual and requires patient effort. Further, the mere vibration of the opening of the Sushumna
