Yoga benefits the brain

The brain is an intricate, mysterious, and soft collection of nerve cells and supporting tissues. It is to him that many scientific studies are devoted, which intend to unravel his secret. With the increasing popularity of yoga in the modern world, the scientific community has expressed great interest in studying the phenomenon of yoga, which has a beneficial effect on human health, and in particular on the brain. Here are the main results that were obtained.

Yoga improves breathing (oxygenates the body) and movement (improves blood flow). This effect is achieved mainly due to pranayama techniques, which allows you to learn more about your breathing in practice, increase oxygen consumption, develop the strength of the lungs, diaphragm, supply oxygen to parts of the brain that are inaccessible during normal breathing. Improvement of coordination and blood flow occurs due to asanas. Also, during inverted poses, blood flow to the head is carried out and the heart rate increases.
Yoga promotes the growth of neural connections. Neurons are brain cells that are responsible for sending signals from the brain to the body. During the early stages of pregnancy, about 250,000 neurons per minute appear in the brain. However, not only the number of neurons in the body is important, but also a stable connection between them (this is especially true for young children). The brain of an infant under three years of age makes about a thousand trillion connections. However, the principle of “make and lose” applies here, since an adult can lose half of these connections by the time they are three years old. This trend can be reversed by starting to strengthen your brain connections. You can do this by showing brain activity as often as possible, but we are talking not only about textbooks. In yoga, some poses baffle us with their intricacy and complexity: here a leg here, a hand there. But all these attempts to understand and understand help us create new neural connections. And if you go beyond scientific research for a moment, then yoga helps a person to look at the world with different eyes, open his mind to everything new, get rid of old patterns – all this is incredibly useful for our brain and its long life. In addition, the creation of new neurons prevents depression and anxiety.
Yoga calms the mind. The brain cannot work in multifunctional mode, but can process information at lightning speed. When a person is faced with several tasks at once, his brain is forced to restlessly switch from task to task, which leads to poor concentration, slowness in learning and short-term memory. An interesting fact: the average person has about 50 to 70 thousand thoughts a day, but, unfortunately, most of them are negative. That is why yoga is so beneficial for a person. First, it allows him to slow down and not feel like a squirrel in a wheel. Secondly, it forms positive thinking, allows you to focus on good thoughts and feelings.
Yoga develops intuition. When we talk about consciousness, many people imagine a concrete brain in their head. But there is also an intangible consciousness. Yoga also deals with it. It has been proven that people who practice yoga for about two years on a regular basis begin to trust themselves more, take responsibility for their actions and live exactly as they wish. Often, when making decisions, they are guided by an inner voice and, what is important, they only benefit from this in the end.
