Miliaria in an infant

Sunshine, summer, hot days… Everything is fine, but your baby has started to develop prickly heat.

The skin of a newborn is very delicate, easily vulnerable, and therefore rashes are not at all uncommon for a baby of the first year of life. In addition, the child’s thermoregulation system is still imperfect, so he overheats and supercools very quickly.

What does baby sweat look like
Prickly heat is manifested by a small rash, sometimes the rash resembles small bubbles filled with a clear liquid. Most often, the rash appears on the neck, back and in the folds. The general condition of the crumbs does not suffer, but the appearance of a rash may be accompanied by itching.

Why does prickly heat appear in a baby
Most often, prickly heat appears when overheating, when the baby is overly wrapped, or in cases where the ambient temperature is elevated or the child has a fever. In these cases, sweating increases, but the ducts of the sweat glands cannot cope with the excessive load, the skin in these areas begins to exfoliate from excess moisture, and a reddish small rash appears in the mouths of the sweat glands. If you start the process, then a more serious bacterial infection can join the banal prickly heat, so the child needs to be helped to get rid of the rash.

How to treat prickly heat in a baby
Remember that it’s better to prevent a rash, so don’t over-dress your baby. Compliance with the simplest hygiene procedures will also prevent the development of prickly heat.

Air baths. If the rash has already appeared, then it is necessary to let the baby’s skin “breathe”. A newborn baby can be allowed to drink for 5 minutes, an older baby for 15 minutes, and a one-year-old butuz can be allowed to run naked for up to 30 minutes.
water procedures. On hot days, bathe your baby 2-3 times a day. After each urination and especially the stool, wash the child under running water.
Air access. Do not abuse diapers in hot weather. Don’t wrap the baby. Remember the golden rule “+1”. Dress your child the way you dress yourself, just add another layer of clothing. And remember that baby clothes should be made only from natural materials.
Leave herbal baths as a last resort, as very often children have allergic reactions to them. Baths with potassium permanganate should also not be abused, it dries the skin, and frequent bathing girls in such a bath can lead to the appearance of synechia.
