First aid for a child if foreign objects get into the body

All kids try to taste, smell, touch everything. Surely many have noticed how often young children take into their mouths everything that is in their hands. But, unfortunately, not only in the mouth. Bones from eaten berries, small balls and other small objects can easily end up in your child’s nose or ear. And this, too, is his way of knowing himself, which gives parents a lot of trouble. Children are the least immune from the ingestion of foreign objects. Of course, it is necessary to carefully monitor so that this does not happen, but sometimes it is not possible to control their every step. Therefore, it is imperative to know how to help a child if he swallowed a small thing or, even worse, choked on it.

Eyewinker
In no case should you pull out the mote with your tongue or hands. Since it can only be moved even deeper, and it will dig into the cornea, and it will be possible to remove it only from a doctor. How to remove the mote correctly? A damp sterile wipe or moistened cotton swab will help you. Do not use dry gauze or cotton wool so that particles of tissue do not remain in the eye. If this method does not help, it is better to rinse the eye with a solution of boric acid or special drops using a pipette. Usually with water, a foreign object is removed easily. And only if this option does not work, you need to see a doctor.

insect in ear
You should not rush to get into the ear canal with tweezers or a toothpick – this way you can move the stuck object even deeper or even damage the hearing aid. The easiest way is to rinse the ear with a powerful jet of water from a douche, rubber bulb, or large syringe. Usually, the foreign body is washed out with the water. In the case of a live insect, instilling a few drops of warm vaseline oil or alcohol into the ear canal helps a lot. Then the victim should be turned over so that the foreign object, together with the oil, comes out of the ear. If extraction does not occur, then the insect will die in any case and it will be possible to wash it like any other foreign object.

Fruit pits in the nose
The most important thing is to notice the moment when this happens and not let the baby walk around with a foreign object in his nose. Otherwise, it can lead to severe inflammation in the nasal cavity and further disruption of normal breathing. If you do not track the situation right away succeeded, then over time the problem will be given by bad breath, nasal congestion, mucus secretion. In this case, you should immediately consult a doctor. If the problem is noticed in time, then to remove the foreign object, it is enough to ask the child to blow his nose or rinse his nose with water using a rubber bulb. Flushing should be done if a foreign body is stuck in one nostril. If both nasal passages are clogged, then it is better not to use this method, since the flow of water can push foreign bodies even deeper.

Child choked on a bone
This situation is the most dangerous. Help is needed right away. You can choke not only on food. You should not exclude the option that a child can choke by putting some small inedible object in his mouth – the same bead, toy, ball. To understand what happened is usually helped by a cough that occurs immediately when a foreign object enters the respiratory tract. Often he also becomes a salvation, helping to cough up a foreign body. But not always. If you can’t clear your throat, you can’t wait.

It is considered the best and most effective way: lower the child upside down and shake. Believe me, you have very little time for other methods of salvation, and this one has been tested for years.

The kid is hungry
The ingress of foreign bodies into the stomach of a child is a frequent occurrence. You don’t have to worry about small beads, coins and balls. Usually they freely leave the child’s body along with feces. But if we are talking about an object with sharp edges, you need to see a doctor. First you need to find out what the child swallowed. If this is a small round object, then you should feed the baby with enveloping food, with which it will easily leave the body. Do not give laxatives! Laxatives stimulate the contraction of the gastric walls, and a foreign object can easily damage them. You should be afraid if the child complains of pain in the chest and abdomen, breathing problems, excessive salivation. These symptoms indicate that the foreign object cannot leave the body on its own or with minimal help. In this case, it is better to consult a doctor.

The most common ways foreign objects enter the body are described here. Careful monitoring will help protect your kids from such incidents in early childhood.
