Caries in baby teeth

The first teeth of a baby often deteriorate very quickly if the parents do not give them proper care. Toothache, crying and tears are the result of caries in children’s teeth.

Caries of milk teeth in children most often occurs in an acute form, that is, it spreads quite quickly and destroys the tooth.

The main causes of caries in children are:

weak mineralization of crowns of temporary teeth, in comparison with permanent ones;
frequent consumption of carbohydrates in food (night feedings, supplementing the child with sweet compotes, sweets) and at the same time poor oral hygiene (from many parents I heard the opinion that why brush temporary teeth – they will fall out anyway). As a result, a large amount of plaque accumulates on the surface of the teeth, which is one of the leading causes in the development of caries;
hyposalivation – a small amount of saliva, which can be caused by taking any medications, stress and other factors;
artificial feeding, especially if the child eats at night;
fluoride prophylaxis that does not meet the requirements of the national dental caries prevention program;
antenatal pathology in a child.
As already mentioned, the acute course of caries of temporary teeth is more common and has its own characteristics:

caries of temporary teeth often spreads along the surface of the tooth, and not deep into, while affecting several parts of the tooth at the same time (that is, several carious cavities form on 1 small temporary tooth);
the carious cavity looks light, the enamel and dentin destroyed by the carious process are light and moist, as if loose;
the process quickly passes to the dental pulp and periapical tissues, leading to the development of complications of caries (pulpitis and periodontitis).
If caries of temporary teeth is not treated, then its complications lead rather quickly to the loss of temporary teeth. In addition, periodontitis temporary teeth can adversely affect the condition of the rudiments of permanent teeth and cause their hypoplasia, and in some cases even death. As a result, the permanent teeth will erupt with altered or not erupt at all, which will affect the formation of the dentoalveolar system as a whole and subsequently require bite correction.

Take good care of your child’s teeth, follow all the recommendations of the dentist regarding nutrition, personal hygiene and fluoride prevention of caries, and then you will have to visit the dentist’s office only for preventive purposes and toothache will never overtake your child.
