How to run a one-hour run

Not many people know what an hour run is. It is even impossible to find running standards in this discipline on the Internet. However, there are a lot of competitions both in Russia and in the world at this distance. And they are quite popular. Today’s article is about what an hour run is and what features of overcoming the distance exist.

What is an hour run
Hourly run – running in a circle in the stadium, the length of the track is 400 meters. The main task of the runner is to run as far as possible in one hour.

After 30, 45, 55, 59 minutes, the organizers talk about the elapsed time of the race.

When the hour ends, the command to stop the movement sounds. Each athlete stops in the place where he was caught by the stop command. After that, he waits for the judges, who fix the final position of each runner.
When there are many participants, then the competition is held in several races. There are several referees in the stadium. Each of which considers the circles of certain athletes.

Features of overcoming the distance
The one-hour run is held in standard 400-meter athletics stadiums. Therefore, it must be borne in mind that you need to run along the first track as close to the curb as possible so as not to wind extra meters.

In addition, the closer you run to the curb, the easier it will be for faster competitors to overtake you. Depending on your speed and the speed of the strongest in your race, there may be more than a dozen such overtakes.
Most often, competitions are held on rubber surfaces. Therefore, there will be a certain novelty compared to running on the highway if you have not run on rubber. In any case, it is better to run in running shoes. Professionals, of course, run in spikes, but it makes no sense to buy such shoes just for the sake of one competition, since it is extremely inconvenient to run in them on the highway.

Don’t start too fast. An hour run can be compared, depending on your strength, with a distance of 12-15 km. It is this distance that the average runner runs, so to speak, in one hour.
It is best to determine a clear pace of movement and follow it. The first 2-3 km you will be able to clearly track your speed. Then it will be difficult to count circles. But the main thing is to run at the same pace. And 5 minutes before the end, start adding.

What should be the result on the hour run
Unfortunately, as I wrote at the beginning of the article, to find I did not manage to find time limits on the Internet. Therefore, if someone can do this, then write the link in the comments. I would be very grateful to you and immediately write an article about the hourly running standards.

However, for approximate orientation, I will write a few figures.

The world record in the hour run belongs to Haile Gebrselassie. He ran 21.285 km in an hour. The Russian record is 19.595 km.

For orientation, if you run 15 km in an hour, then in fact, this is a run for 15 km, which you covered in 60 minutes. If we turn to the standards, then for the 3rd category at a distance of 15 km it is necessary to overcome the distance in 56 minutes. Accordingly, if we transfer this time to an hourly run, then the third category should be equivalent to 16 km per hour. The second is 17 km, and the first is 17.5 km. This is an example for guidance. I repeat, I could not find official standards.
