Starting technique crawl swimming

Here, the crawl start technique is considered in detail. After the starting signal, the start begins, on which the victory in the competition largely depends. Therefore, the better we know the correct start technique in freestyle swimming, the better results we will have.
So, the starting signal rang, at this moment the athlete’s actions can be divided into the following phases:

Jump (repulsion with a swing of the hands).
flight phase.
Entrance to the water.
Glide phase under water.
Exit to the surface.
The starting position of the swimmer before the start.

During the start of crawl swimming, the swimmer’s legs should be bent at the knees (angle 135-150 °), feet should be shoulder-width apart, toes should grab the edge of the bedside table on the side of the feet, or in front of them. The head should be lowered, the breath held. In this position, the athlete’s knees are above the front edge of the pedestal, the head and shoulder girdle are slightly ahead. The weight of the body must be transferred to the front of the feet. The swimmer must be ready at any time to immediately start.

Basic equipment settings before the start of freestyle swimming.

The swimmer should maintain good stability, thanks to the support of the hands.
Carefully wait for the starter’s signal, controlling all parts of the body that will be the first to begin the starting actions.
Jump (repulsion with a swing of the hands).

The beginning of the phase is the signal for the starting start.

The main actions of a swimmer in this phase during crawl swimming are as follows: the athlete unbalances the body by pressing on the edge of the bedside table with his hands. Performs a swing with his arms, repulsion with his legs and sends forward and up the head, arms and torso.

The purpose of the crawl start in the jump phase is to perform the jump as quickly as possible, and also send the body forward and up in the best trajectory.

flight phase.

The beginning of the flight is the separation of the legs from the pedestal.

The main actions of a swimmer in flight during crawl swimming: The athlete stretches the body and flies along the best trajectory. The arms move forward, the head is between the arms. The body turns forward and down, and at the end of the flight phase, it bends slightly at the hip joints. Hands move and stretch forward towards the intended entrance to the water.

The goal of the air crawl start is to fly as far as possible along the best trajectory and enter the water at high speed at “one” point.

Entrance to the water.

Beginning of entry into the water immersion in water brushes.

The main actions of a swimmer entering the water while swimming with crawl technique: Alternately, as if at one point, the hands, arms, head, then the torso and thigh, shins and feet are immersed.

The purpose of the front crawl start during entry into the water: To enter the water with the least resistance and the least loss of speed.

Glide phase under water.

The beginning of sliding under water is the dive of the swimmer’s legs into the water.

The main actions of a swimmer in the phase of gliding under water while swimming with crawl technique: The athlete performs elastic crawl-like (dolphin-like) leg movements, thereby maintaining a high speed of gliding in the water.

The purpose of the start of crawl swimming in a sliding vase under water: To slide forward with maximum speed.

Exit to the surface.

The beginning of the entry to the surface is the first stroke.

The main actions of the swimmer at the entrance to the surface while swimming with the freestyle technique: The first freestyle stroke is made with one hand, the other hand is extended forward and cuts the oncoming flow. The legs are constantly moving in a crawl, the shoulder girdle and the head of the athlete come to the surface, the swimmer’s breathing is delayed, he looks forward and down, being under water.

The purpose of the crawl start in a sliding vase under water is to surface with great speed thanks to the stroke movements that are performed in the rhythm of the 6-stroke freestyle.

These are the main phases in the crawl swimming technique, having mastered them, you can significantly increase the speed of swimming over short distances. To a greater extent, this applies to beginners who were able to improve their results by a few seconds by swimming a 50-meter crawl.
