How to effectively crawl

Six tips to help you get the most efficient and fast crawl!

1. Make the most of the energy of the first step. Jumping off the pedestal or pushing off the wall of the pool, give the body as streamlined shape as possible: stretch into a string, one hand on the other
2. When you raise your head, your hips automatically drop, you move through the water slowly, like a plow. Look not forward, but at the bottom of the pool.
3. Don’t try to force yourself through the water, think about staying as smooth as possible – like a fish. Learn to swim quietly: splashing and hitting the water is a waste of energy.
4. When you make a stroke, let your hand itself, by inertia, sink 15–20 cm under the water and only then pull it under you with force. Imagine putting your hand on a barrel and rolling it towards your feet.
5. Imagine a line cutting through your body from head to toe exactly in the middle. Don’t let your arms cross this line during the stroke, otherwise your body will start to squirm, which will only slow down the swim.
6. Bend your knees slightly and pull your toes, trying not to take your leg out of the aerodynamic shadow that your torso creates. The strength of the push is determined by the flexibility of the ankles. You can develop it by training with fins.
