Breaststroke drills

For most beginners, the breaststroke is one of the most difficult swimming strokes, just like the butterfly, because the movements of the legs and arms in the breaststroke must be coordinated and symmetrical. Some swimmers are predisposed to perform symmetrical movements, so they learn the technique of breaststroke more quickly. Other swimmers need to use dry land preparation exercises that help them master these moves more quickly. For example, squats from the rack, placing the legs shoulder-width apart, turning the feet to the sides; squats from the main riser, etc.

Breaststroke swimming technique – exercises for learning leg movements.

Dry exercises. 1. Sitting on the beach or on a gymnastic bench, we imitate breaststroke leg movements. 2. Standing on one leg sideways or facing the wall, holding on to it with your hands, we imitate movements with the other leg.
Water exercises. 3. We perform breaststroke leg movements, leaning on the bottom of the pool or holding on to the edge of the drain trough, keeping our heads above the surface of the water. 4. The same exercise, but with the face lowered into the water. 5. Swimming with the help of leg movements, resting your hands on the board or stretching them forward. We lower the head to the input or hold it above the surface. 6. Swimming with legs on the back, hands behind the head or at the hips.

Breaststroke swimming technique – exercises for teaching hand movements.

Dry exercises.1. Imitation of hand movements in breaststroke swimming, standing in a half-tilt.

Exercises in water up to the waist. 2. Standing bent over, we perform breaststroke hand movements, keeping the chin on the surface. 3. The same exercise, but while walking along the bottom. We advance to a greater extent due to strokes with our hands. 4. Swimming with arm strokes with the head up, with a rubber circle between the legs. 5. The same exercise, but holding your breath and lowering your face into the water.

Breaststroke swimming technique – exercises for learning breathing.

Water exercises. 1. Standing at the bottom of the pool at a depth to the chest, we inhale – we sink into the water with our head and slowly exhale the air. 2. Standing, bending down to the waist in the water, the chin on the surface – inhale, lower the face into the water – exhale.

Breaststroke swimming technique – exercises for learning to coordinate the movements of the legs and arms.

Dry exercises. 1. Standing on one leg, we imitate the coordination of movements of the other leg and arms.

Water exercises. 2. Swimming breaststroke, keeping your head above the surface. 3. The same exercise, but with your head down and holding your breath.

Breaststroke swimming technique – exercises for learning and mastering the method as a whole.

Water exercises. 1. Swimming of small segments, with the usual variant of breathing, with holding the breath. 2. Overcoming gradually increasing distances and segments.

Breaststroke Swimming Technique – exercises for teaching the basic movement options in the breaststroke swimming technique.

Dry exercises. 1. Standing in a half-tilt, imitation of hand movements when performing a shortened and extended stroke, stroke in depth and on the surface. 2. Standing on one leg, imitation of normal and separate coordination of movements.

Water exercises. 3. Standing, bending down to the waist in the water, chin on the surface – movement of the hands during short and long strokes, during strokes in depth and on the surface. 4. The same exercise, but when swimming with the board between the legs and in full coordination. 5. Performing a “late” and “early” breath while swimming with the help of one hand, holding a rubber circle between the legs.
