Marshmallows

Marshmallow is a product that Russian nutritionists and even pediatricians really consider extremely useful. And if this product has a positive effect on the children’s body, then it’s not worth talking about an adult.

And to make it easier to figure out what is the use of marshmallows, you need to carefully study its composition.

The classic marshmallow, known to ancient Greek culinary specialists, contains fruit puree, sugar and egg white. All these components are thoroughly beaten and mixed until a homogeneous mass with a large number of air bubbles is formed. After that, the resulting mixture is heated and a gel-forming substance is added to it – gelatin, for example, or agar-agar. After cooling, the product is quite dry, soft and crumbling.

Of course, this is the natural way to make marshmallows. Today, with the ubiquity of concentrates and food additives, they are not only actively used to make marshmallows, but sometimes they completely replace some of the classic components. Most often – fruit puree.

But we will consider the composition of the natural marshmallow. One that is considered useful. And first of all, let’s get acquainted with its advantages.

The benefits of marshmallow
The main beneficial properties of marshmallow are due to its ingredients. So, the chemical composition of marshmallows includes:

1. Easily digestible sugars.

As a rule, syrup is prepared from them. They provide the body with energy and strength. And besides, they give a good mood.

2. Proteins.

They are added to marshmallow treats with eggs. And egg white, by the way, is considered the most complete of those used in cooking due to the presence in it of all the essential amino acids for humans. Its characteristic feature is a rather long digestibility compared to milk or meat proteins.

3. Fiber.

In the case when agar-agar or pectin is added to the marshmallow. The latter, by the way, is a fiber in itself, and intensifies the rate of digestion in the body, activates intestinal motility and prevents excess cholesterol from entering the bloodstream. In other words, it is fiber that protects our blood vessels from clogging, and the whole body from atherosclerosis.

In addition, if the marshmallow is made from fruit puree, but using gelatin, fiber in it will still be, since it is an indispensable component of the composition of many fruits.

4. Fats and additional proteins.

When used instead of pectin or agar-agar gelatin. It is a derivative of meat production, and therefore the content of proteins and fats in its composition is quite high.

5. Food acids.

Sometimes, when various food acids are added to marshmallows – citric, for example, or malic – the production of digestive juices and various enzymes is stimulated.

Thus, the chemical composition of marshmallow provides the body with almost everything necessary for normal life: sugars – for activity and better thinking, proteins – for building your own muscle tissue or healing wounds, fiber – for healing the intestines and blood, and minerals from fruits – for maintaining a large amount of physiological processes in the body.

But this wonderful product also has its drawbacks.

1. A large amount of sugars.

Of course, there are fewer of them in it than in sweets or goats, but for those suffering from diabetes or those who are overweight, it will be enough for a justified and forced rejection of egg-fruit sweetness.

2. Synthetic additives.

The disadvantage of most modern marshmallows is the use of various synthetic additives in their composition – flavors, sweeteners and dyes.

Each country and each factory uses its own set of additives. Some of them are safe and harmless.

Some can cause really serious harm. The only important thing is that there are no useful ones among them, and therefore cheap marshmallows should be avoided.

But in general, you can regularly pamper not only relatives and friends, but also children with natural marshmallows. Marshmallow can be given to children as soon as they have teeth. It is only important to observe the baby – many children have allergies to citrus puree.

Therefore, if suddenly you decide to sweeten your table with some kind of confectionery and hesitate with the choice, feel free to stop at marshmallows. If you do not have diabetes, and E-additives in the product itself, marshmallows will definitely give you a good mood, strength and cheerful state of health. It remains only to carefully choose the brand.
