Goat Milk While Breastfeeding

For many years, pediatricians have been arguing about the advisability of introducing goat’s milk into the diet of a nursing mother. Therefore, it is very difficult for a woman to make the right decision whether or not she should drink the milk of small ruminants. Let’s figure it out together, is it possible to take goat’s milk while breastfeeding and what are the benefits or harms of mother and baby from drinking goat’s milk?

Goat’s milk is a real storehouse of vitamins: A, D and C, all B vitamins. Moreover, it contains more vitamin C than cow’s.

Probably the most important vitamin is D, because thanks to it our body absorbs calcium, which is so necessary not only for the strength of bones and teeth, but also for the beauty of hair and nails. Yes, and in a baby, a lack of calcium is fraught with rather dangerous consequences: rickets, poor fusion of the fontanel, developmental delay, weak weight gain. Therefore, if a mother drinks goat’s milk, this will help to ensure that the calcium contained in breast milk will be absorbed much better.

Yes, and the level of allergenicity in goat’s milk is much lower, because it contains beta-casein, which is also found in breast milk, therefore it is safe for babies. In addition, due to the large amount of fats and albumins, the body of mother and child absorbs it more easily and quickly, without causing diarrhea and vomiting.

But, even in spite of all this, you should not introduce goat’s milk into the diet of a child earlier than a year.

Should goat milk be in the diet of a nursing mother?
To increase the amount of calcium and vitamins in her own milk, the mother can consume animal milk herself. But cow’s can lead to diathesis, itching and rashes, colic and bloating, intestinal upset, so it’s better to drink goat’s milk. But you need to introduce it into your menu gradually: after drinking a glass, observe the reaction of the child during the day. If everything is fine: the behavior has not changed, the consistency of the stool is the same, the general state of health and sleep are good, then goat’s milk with HB can be consumed in large volumes.

But a baby of the first year of life will benefit from goat’s milk only if the mother drinks it: it is impossible to give it to a child in its pure form. There are many reasons for this.

The first reason is that it contains a lot of fat, which overloads the baby’s body, which is simply not ready for this yet.

The second is the presence of a large amount of phosphorus, which overloads the kidneys, provokes metabolic disorders, poor absorption of calcium and vitamin D.

The third is the presence of various harmful additives in it, because antibiotics and hormones are added to animal feed.

Fourth, it is often impossible to monitor the health of an animal that can have very dangerous diseases.

But if the mother does not have enough milk, the child reacts badly to the cow, and there is no money for adapted mixtures, then goat milk must be diluted with clean drinking water according to the following scheme: for the first 2 weeks, dilute in a ratio of 1: 3, and if the baby tolerates it well, then the amount of water can be reduced to an equal amount with milk.

So the benefits and harms of goat milk are almost the same.
