FROM THE TRANSLATOR

Five rotations (wu yun) and six energies (liu qi) is a Chinese classical cosmobiorhythmology that allows you to calculate the nature of weather changes for any period of time in the future and, accordingly, changes in the human body. Therefore, without knowing this theory, it is impossible to make a correct diagnosis and offer the correct treatment, for the same reason it is impossible to choose the right training regimen for an athlete, and even more so for a wrestler or karateka. In Chinese (as in any oriental or ancient) medicine, in modern terms, the approach is energetic: external, bioweather energies (liu qi) interact with the energies of five dense (wu tsang) and six hollow (lu fu) internal organs, forming a motley, but an easy-to-calculate picture.

However, although the number of options is limited and they are repeated every 60 years, nevertheless, due to the many types of energy under consideration, it is not so easy to calculate the result of their interactions and influences on each internal organ, therefore there are not very many experts on this theory, although it is described in ancient medical treatise "Neijing" - "Treatise on the internal", attributed to the Yellow Ruler (Huangdi), who allegedly lived before the written history of China, in fact, the treatise was written no earlier than the middle of the 1st millennium BC ad. As for the 60-year cycle, Huangdi allegedly established it in 2637 BC, since then sixty years have been counted in and around the country.

Five yun rotations are energies that change qualitatively in accordance with the five elements and quantitatively in accordance with yin-yang, i.e. deficiency and excess. So

Thus, there are ten options, after which the cycle repeats. Six qi energies are also a cycle, but not decimal, but duodecimal. These energies, likewise, change through the elements and yin-yang. The combination of the first and second creates a picture of the state of the energy of space, which also affects living organisms, in particular, the human pulse. There can be only sixty combinations of ten with twelve, then the energy situation in space is repeated. If we are talking about years, then the 60-year cycle roughly corresponds to the cycle of Jupiter or half the cycle of Saturn, but the main thing is still a person: according to Chinese concepts, this is the average life expectancy of a person. And ten and 12 years are the rhythms of solar activity.

There are three types of rotation: medium or large (zhongyun, dayun), host rotation (dominant, zhuyun) and guest rotation (guest, keyun). The first applies to the entire year. Denoting

ten rotations in Roman numerals (where the odd numbers are Yang, i.e. with excess energy, and the even ones are Yin, i.e. with a lack), we have: years I and VI belong to the elements "soil", weather is characterized by humidity; years II and VII, in short, - dryness-metal, years III and VIII - cold-water, years IV and IX - wind-tree, years V and X - heat (fire) - fire. In odd, Yang years, what has been said must be true, and in even Yin, the energy of this element of the year is weak, so “that which overcomes me” dominates according to the scheme of generating and overcoming the five elements.

The dominant rotations (zhuyun) no longer refer to the year, but to the season, which is 1/5 of the year, or 73.05 days (the Chinese divide the year into four, 5, 6 or 2four seasons, this season is called the season of rotations - yunji), then the qualitative characteristic of rotation corresponds exactly to the elements in their sequence: tree-fire-soil-metal-water. This constant rhythm from year to year is superimposed by a variable rhythm of visiting rotations (keyun). They have the same order of elements, but every year the "guest" comes a season later.

Six There are also three types of energies (qi): commanders (silin-zhi qi), dominant (zhuqi) and guests (keqi). The first command the year and. change according to the "three yin - three yang" system. Denoting годы арабсtoandмand цandфрамand, получandм следующее. Years 1 and 7: small yin (shaoyin, 2 yin), fire-prince (element "fire" is great); years 2 and 8: great yin (taiyin, 3rd yin), humidity-soil; years 3 and 9: small yang (shaoyang, 1 yang), fire-minister (element "fire" is smaller); years four and ten: yang light (yangming, 2 yang), dry-metal; years 5 and 11: great yang (taiyang, 3 yang), cold-water; years 6 and 12: yin in oneself (jueyin, 1 yin), wind-tree. Here we see 5 elements (fire is divided into two) and 6 qi characterizing the state of the weather on earth, therefore they are called earthly energies, while rotations are heavenly, as if setting the earthly program.

To find the dominant and visiting qi, the year is already divided into 6 seasons-steps of 60.875 days, according to Fig. 7, it is easy to determine the dominant qi, and the visiting qi, according to fig. 8: They are called the sky board, the spring, the left and right gaps.

This summary of rotations and qi is taken from the Shanghai edition of the Treatise on the Inner (1991), where "Simple Questions" (Suwen) is given in both ancient and modern language, with added explanations, and where extensive excerpts from данной toнandгand Ren Yingqiu. You will get more detailed information by reading the book.

To more clearly imagine the Chinese view of the influence of external (cosmic, weather) energies on the body, let's consider a simple example. A person has a liver disease.

According to Chinese medicine, the disease can have a syndrome of excess (yang) or deficiency (yin). If our patient lacks the energy of the liver, then in the spring he will be better, because the element "tree" corresponds to the spring, and the liver too; this energy of the spring-tree will nourish the liver. The energy of winter (the element "water") is also beneficial for him, since "water gives birth to a tree", but autumn (the element "metal") is dangerous: "metal suppresses the tree." Consequently, the year of the "metal" is unfavorable. But the years are considered according to ten-year and 12-year cycles (according to the so-called heavenly stems and earthly branches), and we still need to look at the total impact of the year. For example, if the trunk is “wood” and the branch is “metal,” then the main energy of the year is “metal,” since “metal suppresses wood.” As we will see from the text, calculate not only years and seasons, but also any length of time. Although the weather may vary even in neighboring areas, this system of five rotations and six qi is used throughout the area of Chinese culture: from Mongolia to Vietnam and from Tibet to Japan.

It is not easy for a European to deal with Chinese terminology, since we have no analogues. The translator strove to reduce the Sinicisms to a minimum, translating into Russian or denoting Chinese concepts in some other way. The Chinese term yun is translated as "rotation", because in Chinese it means moving in a circle, cyclic movement. Sometimes they simply translate “movement”, but this is associated with even more distant concepts. The term "energy", both in Russian and in Chinese, implies a very wide range of energies (including "rotation"), but in this context the meaning is narrower.

                                                                                     Fig.A

Pentagram of mutual generation and mutual suppression of the five elements

It should be noted that the qualitative characteristics of energies in Europe and Asia may differ. For example, they have “dryness” and we have “humidity” in the west, because they have the Central Asian deserts in the west, and we have the Atlantic Ocean. However, it is obvious that if there is a certain rhythm in the East (a 60-year cycle with all its details), then even if not completely adequate, but a similar rhythm should manifest itself globally, and it would be useful to identify it for other regions of the Earth.

For example, for five rotations: the transition from one quality of qi energy to another: "tree" symbolizes the initial growth, "fire" - maximum activity, "metal" - a symbol of the achieved strength, falling activity, "water" - minimal activity, "soil"- the center, as it were, the balance of all these forces. Movement in a circle is generation, in a star - suppression: water suppresses fire, fire - metal, etc.
