Pyla (Greek Πύλα, Pýla; Turkish Pile) is a village in the Larnaca district, Republic of Cyprus. This is one of four villages located on the territory of the Green Line – the UN buffer zone between the Greek and Turkish parts of the island (the other three are Athienou, Trulli and Denia).
Pila is located in the eastern part of the island near the British sovereign base of Dhekelia. From a legal point of view, it is under the control of the Republic of Cyprus.
The village is notable for being the only one on the island where Greek Cypriots (850 inhabitants) and Turkish Cypriots (487 inhabitants) live side by side. There are three Orthodox churches and one mosque in the village.
Near the village is the archaeological site of Pyla-Kokkinokremos.

History
Pyla is one of the oldest villages in Cyprus, dating back to the Middle Ages. On old maps the name is rendered as Pila or Pilla.
The name of the village comes from the Greek. πύλη (entrance), which is apparently due to the fact that only from here it was possible to get to the plain en: Mesaoria.

Tourism
The area is popular with tourists. There are a number of luxury hotels here: Golden Bay, Lordos and Sandy Beach, as well as many restaurants, taverns, tourist shops and rental apartments.

Sport
The village has Aspis FC football club and Finikas volleyball club.
