Lefka

Lefka (Turkish: Lefke, Greek: Λεύκα) is a city and municipality in Cyprus, located on the Morphou Bay. It is located on the territory of the Guzelyurt region and is controlled by a partially recognized state – the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

History
By the 14th century, the city was mostly inhabited by Greeks. Then, during the Venetian period, the city turned into a Venetian city-colony and the city was dominated by Catholics of Italian origin.
During the formation of the Ottoman Empire, Turks began to migrate to the city. During the Cyprus Crisis of 1963-1975, most of the Greek population left the city.

Now the Green Line stretches south of the city, dividing the island into two parts.
