Saatly

Saatli (Azerbaijani Saatlı) is a city, the administrative center of the Saatli region, 180 km from Baku. It is located on the right bank of the Araks River.

History
The village of Saatly belonged to the Dzhevat district of the Baku province. By a decree dated May 25, 1943, a new district was allocated from the Sabirabad region with the center in Saatly. On September 24, 1947, the village of Saatly was classified as an urban-type settlement. In 1971 it received city status.

Population
According to the “Caucasian calendar” for 1910 in the village of Saatly of the Dzhevat district of the Baku province in 1908, 307 people lived, and in 1912 – 323 people, consisting mainly of Azerbaijanis, referred to as “Tatars”. According to the “Caucasian calendar” for 1915, the population of Saatly decreased to 235 people.
According to the 1959 census, 5936 people lived in Saatli. In 1975, the population of the city was 10,700 inhabitants. According to the 1979 census of the city, there were 10,986 people in Saatli, and in 1989 it reached 14,200 people.

Economy
There are food enterprises, a cotton gin plant in the city.
