Ingapirca

The fortress of Ingapirca is an archaeological complex in the province of Cañar in Ecuador. Located at an altitude of 3120 m above sea level near the city of Cuenca.

The fortress was built by the Cañari people, but later conquered by the Incas. The name “Ingapirca” in Quechua means “fortress of the Incas”.

In 2010, three Sacred Ancestral Stones were excavated from the ceremonial site. Modern historians evaluate the find as a unique discovery.
