Puyo Villamil

Puerto Villamil (Spanish: Puerto Villamil) is the center of Isabela Canton of the Galapagos Province; a small port village located on the southeastern tip of Isabela Island.

Named after José de Vilamil, one of the fighters for the independence of Ecuador. Of the 2,200 inhabitants of Isabela Island, most live in Puerto Villamil. The local harbor is a popular stopping point for private yachts on their way to the Marquesas Islands, as the archipelago’s westernmost settlement. Usually the villagers earn their livelihood through agriculture or fishing.
