Diving in Tunisia

The resorts of Tunisia, located on the Mediterranean coast, attract divers from all over the world. The largest coral reef in North Africa stretches for 300 kilometers along the coast of the country. Tours to Tunisia can be recommended mainly to amateur divers for whom scuba diving is entertainment, not a professional activity. By the way, diving in Tunisia can be perfectly complemented by a beach holiday, an excursion program and thalassotherapy.

North Coast
The northern coast of the country, namely the part that is located between Bizerte and Tabarka, is the most popular place for scuba diving. Firstly, the local waters are perfectly transparent. This is due to the fact that the coastline is a continuous rocky chain. But on sandy beaches with visibility, things are much worse.
A large number of underwater grottoes, corridors and tunnels have become a haven for various marine life. However, the Mediterranean reef that crosses this territory is of particular interest. In addition to the well-known inhabitants of coral gardens, eels, octopuses and sea breams are found here. In addition, these waters are very fond of tuna, among which you can meet tiny young animals, and huge giants, reaching 180 kilograms in weight.

La Galite Archipelago
This very popular dive site is located at a distance of 50 kilometers from the mainland zone. The archipelago consists of six islands. Anglers do not have access to the waters of La Galite, so the local waters abound with all sorts of representatives of the deep sea. In addition, here you can explore an interesting wreck – a merchant ship that was wrecked in the late 50s of the last century.

East Coast
In the local coral gardens and underwater caves, life is literally in full swing. Sponges, starfish and flocks of small fish managed to find free space in the algae and were not slow to equip it.
Not far from Mahdia, during the Second World War, several ships sank, which are still resting in the waters of the east coast. Also, divers will be able to see the wreckage of a military helicopter here.
It was in these places that the great Jacques Yves Cousteau made his underwater walks. During one of the dives, he managed to find an ancient Roman galleon, the holds of which were chock-full of treasures. Today they can be seen in the National Museum of Bardo.

Cap Bon Peninsula
The coastline of Cap Bona is characterized by an abundance of rocks, but there are also sandy areas. This area is perfect for beginner divers, because the bottom in these places is flat, and the depth is minimal. The richness of marine fauna, as well as the beauty of underwater landscapes, are in no way inferior to the northern coast.

The Gulf of Gabes
The clear waters of Gabes Bay provide visibility up to 70 meters, so divers are guaranteed not to be disappointed. Corals and many types of game fish, as well as crustaceans and mollusks – all this can be observed in the Gulf of Gabes. The island of Djerba, located here, is known for its deep bay with a sandy bottom, where red mullet and flounder live. In addition, this dive site is attractive with gardens of gorgonians – unusual horn corals, the shape of which resembles lush bushes.
