Volvo, Volvo

Volvo was founded by entrepreneur Assar Gabrielsson and designer Gustav Larson. They made their decision in 1927. The newly-made automobile plant immediately showed good results: in just a year, it produced 297 cars. OV4 had an inconspicuous classic appearance, so the world car market did not pay much attention to this car. Low wages in Sweden played a decisive role in Volvo’s success, which enabled manufacturers to produce large quantities of cars at a fairly low price. It was beautiful cars with a low cost that later became the main strong point of Volvo.

The real event for the company was the start of production of PV444 cars in 1947. It was a compact model, equipped with a 4-liter engine and had a fairly low price. Over the next decade, the company produced 1,000,000 of these machines, which became quite popular. The PV444 became the prototype for the next compact car, the Amazon (Volvo 120). It was thanks to these two models that in the 1950s and 1960s the company’s production volumes continued to grow strongly. At the same time, all produced cars had a classic look, from which it was decided to retreat only in 1961 when creating the P1800 model. This car with a 1.8-liter engine with 4 cylinders is also interesting in that it is the only sports model released by Volvo.

In 1966, the production of Volvo144 started. Since then, Volvo cars have been recognized as the safest to drive, because the new model was equipped with a large number of safety features.

In 1982, the Volvo700 was released, which for some time became the face of the company. Even the models currently produced to some extent copy its appearance.

Soon a plant was built in Holland, intended for the production of Volvo 440/460/480. Then, starting in 1991, the company decided to deviate from the classics and produce cars of a dynamic type, characterized by good handling on the track. The first embodiment of this idea is the Volvo 850.

Today the company is included in Ford’s Premier Automotive Group (PAG). This also includes: Lincoln, Mazda, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Jaguar.
