Calendar, holidays

The Principality of Andora celebrates both religious and generally accepted European holidays. These are grandiose celebrations that are celebrated throughout the country, attracting foreign tourists. On holidays, street concerts, folk festivals, festivals of ethnic music are held. Every year Andor hosts international festivals of classical and jazz music. We are talking about events that do not contradict the morality of the Catholic Church, because most Andorrans were brought up in strict religious traditions.

The national festival in honor of the Virgin Mary “Mare de Du de Meritsel” is very popular with tourists.

It is celebrated on September 8 in the city of Meritzel, 7 km northeast of the capital. Also very interesting are the village festivals that take place one after the other from the beginning of July to the end of September.

Every year, on August 1, a grandiose three-day festival is held in honor of the Andorra la Vella holiday. During the New Year and Christmas period, Andora pampers local children, arranging colorful children’s parties in Encamp.

First января в княжестве Андорра, к удивлению, рабочий день. On the first day of the year, only civil servants do not go to work. Celebrating the New Year is an exclusively family prerogative. Restaurants and cafes on New Year’s Eve will be, to the surprise of our tourists, tightly closed.

Holidays in Andorra did not go unnoticed by representatives of working professions. On the first of May, Andorrans celebrate Labor Day Holidays in Andorra.

This is an official holiday and holiday of state status. What is surprising, because there are no workers’ unions in the principality, and the celebration of Labor Day is a tribute to France and Spain.

Saint John is considered the patron saint of Andorra. The holiday dedicated to him is celebrated from the twenty-third to the twenty-fourth of June – this is the shortest night of the year. In pagan times, it was believed that during the holidays in Andorra it was impossible to fall asleep on this magical night, because you could miss the singing of fabulous elves.

On the twenty-third of April, St. George’s Day is celebrated in a small mountainous state.

This is a romantic holiday similar to Valentine’s Day, which is famous in Europe. Saint George’s Day honors the tender feelings of couples in love.
