Lapithos

Lapithos or Lapetos (Greek Λάπηθος, Tur. Lapta) is a municipality in the north of the island of Cyprus, in the Kyrenia region, 14 kilometers west of the city of Kyrenia. Since the 1974 Turkish invasion, the city has been controlled by the partially recognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The city of Lapithos is located on the site of the ancient city-state of Lapithos.

History
The municipality of Lapithos was created in 1878 as a result of the administrative-territorial reform carried out in Cyprus by the British. A municipal council was established and the position of Dimarch Lapithos was elected by the population. The municipal council lasted until the end of 1987.
Currently, most of the population of Lapithos are Turks.

The community of Lapithos consists of six enoria (Greek Ενορία – parish), formerly separate villages:
