Aglandzia (Greek Αγλαντζιά, Cypriot pronunciation Aglandja, Turkish Eğlence) is a municipality and a suburb of the city of Nicosia. It is located southeast of Nicosia and covers an area of about 31 km2, of which 14 km2 has been occupied by the Turkish army since 1974. Of the remaining 17 km², 9 km² is occupied by the National Forest of Parks – Athalassa Park (8.6 km²) and Pedagogical Academy Park (0.4 km²).

Etymology
The word Aglanca is of Turkish origin and means “entertainment”.

Geography
Aglandzia is located on a foothill plateau and most of the municipality’s houses are built on hills or hillsides. The main part of the settlement is located between two high hills. The hill to the east is called Arona Hill and is now controlled by the Turkish army. The hill on the western side is Aronas Athalassa, on top of which stands the ruins of the medieval castle “La Cava”.

Kafizin is located in Aglandzia, an important archaeological site of the late stage of the Cypriot culture before the transition of the island to the rule of the Ptolemies. The latest monuments of Cypriot writing were found in Kafizina.

Administration
Aglandzia was declared a municipality in a referendum in May 1986. The municipal council consists of the mayor and 16 municipal councilors. The current mayor is Charalambos Petridis (1986-2011 Andreas Petru, 2011-2016 Kostas Kortas).
