Qalansua

Qalansua (Arabic قلنسوة‎; Hebrew קלנסווה‏‎) is a city (since 2000) in the Central District of Israel.

History
The village of Qalansua already existed by the time the crusaders appeared in the Holy Land, entering the chain of settlements along the Cairo-Damascus highway. The chronicles recorded the transfer of the castle of Calancois to the Order of the Hospitallers in 1128 by the knight Godefroy de Flujac. Apparently, the Hospitallers retained control of the castle for most of the period (with the exception of 1887-1891) until 1265, when it was occupied by the Mamluk Sultan Baybars. The ruins of the Crusader fortress have survived to this day.
In the 1870s, the population of the village was about 500 people. In 1882, Kalansua, mostly built up with adobe houses surrounding the ruins of the fortress, served as the residence of kaymakamu.
By 1945, the population of Kalansua exceeded 1,500 people, the surrounding lands were grown mainly cereals, as well as citrus fruits, bananas and other fruit crops. After the Arab-Israeli war of 1948-1949, Kalansua ended up on Israeli territory under the terms of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Jordan. Since 2000, Qalansua has had city status.
