Varamin

Varamin (pers. ورامین‎) is a city in the north of Iran in the province of Tehran, the administrative center of Shahrestan Varamin. The population is 208,569 people. Located 35 km southwest of Tehran. Railway station on the Tehran-Mashhad line.

History
The date of foundation of the city is unknown. It is believed that Varamin is the ancient city of Varena, mentioned in the Avesta. In the XIV century. Veramin prospered, grew rapidly and was recognized as the most well-groomed city in the wide area adjacent to it. Under the Safavids, Tahmasp I paid much more attention to Tehran, and nearby Veramin began to decline. The architect Delafoy, who repeatedly visited Veramina, accompanied by her husband Marcel during the reign of Nasser ad-Din Shah, described the city in detail.

Sights
The most important landmark of Veramin is the Cathedral Mosque, located in the south of the city. It is considered the largest mosque in all of Iran. It has four verandas and is richly decorated inside and out. In 1931, it was included in the List of Cultural Heritage of Iran. Its construction was completed in 1325-26, and it was renovated in 1436, during the reign of Mirza-Shahrukh from the Timurid dynasty.
The Ala-ed-Din Tower is located to the north of the Friday Mosque, next to the Veraminsky central square. It is 17 m high, has a beautiful cone-shaped dome and is considered a magnificent example of Iranian art. Its construction dates back to 1289. The tower is usually divided into two parts: the lower, in the form of a circle with a Kufic inscription, 12 cm high, and the upper, that is, a dome, having a height of 5 cm, which is decorated with geometric lines on top.
The fortress of Iraj is located near the village of Jaafarabad, northeast of Veramin. This is one of the biggest fortresses of Iran. Clay and bricks were used in its construction. It was erected during the Sassanid period and is one of the most interesting and remarkable buildings in the world, built of mud brick, but over the millennia it has undergone serious destruction. The uniqueness of the fortress was noted by the European archaeologist Klais, pointing to its huge size: it stretches for 1214 m from north to south and 1150 m from west to east. Once it had four gates, of which only one, the main one, has been preserved. The thickness of the fortress walls is from 17 to 22 m.

The tower-tomb of Yusuf Razi, known as Yusef-Reza, is a place of pilgrimage for local residents.
The tomb of Sayyid Fathullah is located on his grave. Sayyid Fathullah was the spiritual mentor of the locals; his ancestors came from Mecca to Ray and Veramin. The old building of the tomb, which has stucco in the form of bushes and flowers, is surrounded by a new one, where religious ceremonies are held.
