Nowshahr

Nowshahr (pers. نوشهر‎) is a port city in the north of Iran in the province of Mazandaran, located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. The administrative center of Shahrestan is Nowshahr. The population is 200 thousand people. Tourist resort. Developed woodworking industry. Enterprises of the food and textile industry. Cultivation of rice, tea, citrus fruits.

Climate and tourism
This city has a humid climate. Very beautiful nature attracts Iranian tourists. Every year, Nowshahr hotels and private villas host hundreds of thousands of people. During the reign of Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, the city was known as the “summer capital” of Iran, as government officials lived and worked there during the summer.

Culture and Industry
The airport in Nowshahr is located in the Western part of the city. The city has a naval university named after Imam Khomeini, a branch of the Azad University and a higher state school. The city was built by a Dutch contracting firm in the 1920s and is the most importing of all Iranian cities on the Caspian coast. Until 1996, Nowshahr was part of Chalus. The industrialization of the city was slow due to environmental considerations and its economy developed through tourism, water transport and agriculture. Now the food, medical, furniture (by preserving wood) and metallurgical industries are developing in Nowshahr.

In July 2004, the assembly shop of the Minsk Automobile Plant was launched in Nowshahr.
