Maysan Governorate – (Arabic ميسان‎), one of the governorates of Iraq. It is located in the east of the country, on the border with Iran. The administrative center is the city of El Amara. Until 1976 he was the vilayat of Amar. Territory 16,072 km²., with a population of 971,400 in 2011. The population of this governorate suffered the most during the Iran-Iraq war, during which the region was the main battlefield.

In 2003 it came under the control of the British Armed Forces after the invasion of Iraq.
