Martvili

Martvili (Georgian მარტვილი) is a city in Georgia in Megrelia (region of Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti).
From 1936 to 1990 the city was called Gegechkori by the name of A. A. Gegechkori.
The food industry is developed in the city.

Sights
An old monastery is located in Martvili, consisting of the main temple of the 7th-10th centuries, the Mtsire Chikvani church (10th century), a pillar (11th century) and an enclosing wall with secondary buildings. The Chikvani family is buried in the Mtsire Chikvani church. The city also houses a local history museum.

Revolutionaries Yevgeny Gegechkori and Aleksey Gegechkori are from Martvili.
