Gurjaani

Gurjaani (Georgian გურჯაანი) is a city (since 1934), the center of the Gurjaani municipality of Georgia.
Population – 9.5 thousand inhabitants (2009).
Located on the right bank of the Alazani Valley. Railway station 122 km east of Tbilisi; from Gurjaani a railway branch (21 km) to Tsnori.

Economy
It is the center of a developed viticulture and wine-making region of Georgia. In Gurjaani there are wine-making, canning, alcohol, brick and mechanical repair plants.

Culture
There are six museums in Gurjaani and its environs: the house-museum of Joseph Noneshvili, Nato Vachnadze, Ivan Beritashvili, the Museum of Military Glory named after Shalikashvili, the Great Patriotic War Memorial and the museum of the history of the village of Vachnadziani.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, built in the 8th century, is unique with its two domes. Currently, the restoration is completed, and the temple and the road to it are in excellent condition.

Tourism
Akhtala mud resort. Former resort of all-Union significance.
