Ayrum

Ayrum (arm. Այրում) is a city in the north of the Tavush region of Armenia.
The head of the city community is Paranyan Arayik.

Geography
The city is located at the foot of the Gugarats ridge, 18 km west of Noyemberyan, 28 km northeast of Alaverdi in the neighboring Lori marz, and 13 km southeast of the Georgian city of Sadakhlo. The city is located on the banks of the Debed River on the railway and highway Yerevan-Tbilisi.
High-quality peaches grow in Ayrum; they, along with Noyemberyan, are the highest quality in Armenia.

History
Ayrum has been an urban-type settlement since 1960. After the administrative reform in Armenia, it again received the status of a village, from 07/04/2006 a city.
In the vicinity of the village, traces of a Bronze Age settlement were found – granaries, figurines.

Railway
Ayrum is the only operating interstate railway point and, accordingly, all rail transportation from Armenia to other countries is carried out through the Ayrum station and further to Georgia. Passenger traffic is represented by one commuter train Gyumri-Ayrum, a long-distance train Yerevan-Tbilisi and a summer train Yerevan-Batumi.
