Diving in Bulgaria

A trip to Bulgaria provides an opportunity not only to enjoy relaxing on cozy beaches, but also to try on the role of an explorer of the underwater world. Diving in Bulgaria, no doubt, will leave an indelible impression on tourists, because the depths of the Black Sea are truly full of amazing beauty and amazing secrets.

Underwater Forest
This unique dive site is located between Sozopol and the island called “Saint Ivan”. Diving to a depth of 25 meters, divers will be able to see a bewitching and at the same time gloomy landscape formed by giant columns with a diameter of about six meters. This stone forest sank to the bottom about 65 million years ago. Scuba divers from all over the world come here to admire such an incredible spectacle with their own eyes.
As a result of multiple studies, experts were able to determine both the age and the breed of petrified wood. It turned out that cedars rest in these depths. When the sea level rose sharply, the water flooded the coastal areas. A walk among the stone pillars will allow you to find many items that belonged to different eras. This is due to the fact that all ships entering the port of Sozopol were exempted from unnecessary luggage.

“Saint Peter” and “Saint Ivan”
“Saint Ivan” is the largest island off the coast of Bulgaria. In the immediate vicinity, just a few meters away, there is another “piece” of land, called “Saint Peter”. These two islands are a real nature reserve.
The maximum depth here is 24 meters. The underwater fauna is quite rich. In the water area you can find a large number of fish and other inhabitants. The islands have a rocky base, overgrown with black mussels. Diving in these places will allow you to explore the preserved fragments of the ancient city wall.

Snake Island
The snake island has another name – the island of “Saint Tom”. It is located at a distance of about 500 kilometers from the resort of Sozopol. In the local depths, there are many walls and rocks that smoothly descend to 13 meters. The animal world is surprisingly diverse. Here you can swim even with whole families dolphins.

Wreck diving in Bulgaria
Recent studies of the sea depths in the area of Sozopol have revealed not only numerous ruins of ancient buildings, but also the skeletons of wrecked ships. The depth of most wreck sites does not exceed 35 meters. Shipwrecks belong to various eras, from ancient times to the 20th century.

Night diving enthusiasts should head to St. Stephen’s Bay, which is home to a variety of crustaceans and fish. In addition, this bay is characterized by fabulously beautiful landscapes, which are intricately dotted with canyons and rocks.
