Shubra el-Kheima

Shubra al-Kheima (Shubra al-Khaimah) is the fourth most populated city in Egypt, located in the Governorate of Qalyubia. It is located in the north of Greater Cairo, being part of its agglomeration. Since the 1940s, the city has been inhabited by workers who worked in nearby factories and their families. Now the city is the heavily sprawled northern outskirts of Cairo, where migrants flock from the countryside. The total population can reach over 3.5 million people. The main attraction is the Fountain Palace. An underground metro line connects the city with Cairo.

Industry
The city of Shubra al-Khaimah is one of the largest and oldest industrial cities in Egypt; before the creation of the cities of El Ashir-min-Ramadan, Sadat and the City of the Sixth of October, the city of Shubra al-Khaimah was the main industrial center of Egypt. Many textile factories are located here.

The largest Asco plant specializes in spinning, cotton ginning and wool yarn weaving; before the sale of the enterprise to Crystal Asfour, it was one of the largest factories in Egypt after the factory in Mahalla el-Kubre. Today, Crystal Asfour is the largest crystal manufacturer in Egypt, with close to 40,000 employees.

In addition, there are several large ready-made clothing factories in the city.
