Al-Mansoura

El Mansoura is a city in Egypt, in the Nile Delta on the eastern side of the Dumyat branch, about 120 km northeast of Cairo. The administrative center of the Dakahlia Governorate. The population is 450,000 people. On the opposite bank of the Nile is the city of Talha, with which they form a metropolis. Administratively, El-Mansoura is divided into 2 large districts: West Mansoura and East Mansoura.

Etymology
In Arabic, Mansura means “victorious”. So the city is named after the victory of the Egyptian army under the leadership of the Sultana Shajar ad-Durr in the battle of Mansur over Louis IX during the Seventh Crusade.

History
El Mansoura was founded in 1219 by Saladin’s brother, Abubakr Malik Al-Adil I (also known as Safadin) of the Ayyubid dynasty. After the victory of the Egyptians over the Crusaders during the Seventh Crusade, the city is named Mansura.
In 1887, the first map of the city of El Mansoura was drawn up.
In 1914 – 1918. in El Mansour, the Lebanese national hero Amin Bashir Gemayel, his brother and son Pierre found refuge. After the end of World War I and the fall of the Young Turks, the Gemayelis returned to Lebanon.
During the Fourth Arab-Israeli War in October 1973, a major air battle took place near El Mansura. 160 Israeli planes attacked Egyptian air bases, but were intercepted by Egyptian aircraft.

Economy
El Mansoura’s economy is based on trade, agriculture and the newly discovered natural gas.
