Weather

The climate in Kiribati is equatorial maritime in the center of the country, tropical maritime in the north and south. The main feature of the local climate is uniformity. The minimum air temperature is +22C. The average temperature range is +28…+32С. The northwesterly trade winds influence the weather from March to October and ease the intense heat. From December to March, powerful westerly winds bring storms and showers.

The average annual rainfall is 1100 mm in the central regions, up to 3000 mm. per year over the Line Islands. From November to February, the maximum precipitation falls. The lowlands of most of the islands of Kiribati lead to the fact that powerful downpours literally flood them with water, and at the same time there is a shortage of fresh water. A serious danger is the fluctuation of the sea during high and low tides, as well as during winter storms, when full ones literally roll over some small islands.
