West Island is the capital of the Cocos Islands, which are part of the Outer Territory of Australia

West Island is located on the island of the same name, the population is mainly concentrated in the center of the island. There is a hospital, several hotels and cafes. The entire northern and southern part of the island is occupied by palm plantations. To the north, there is a wharf, fuel storage tanks, a beach, and an isolated station. Near the airport, built during the Second World War, there is a meteorological observatory. In the southeast of the island is the Pulu National Park (English) Russian, created in 1995.

The population of the island is 133 people (2011). Mostly inhabited by Malays.
