Rashaya

Rashaya (Arabic: راشيا‎) is a city in southeastern Lebanon, in the Beqaa province. The administrative center of the district of the same name.

Geography
The city is located in the southeastern part of the province, on the western slopes of the Hermon mountain range, approximately 37 kilometers south-southwest (SSW) of the city of Zahle and 50 kilometers southeast of the capital, Beirut. The absolute height is 1171 meters above sea level.

Sights
The city has an 18th-century fortress, now run by the Lebanese army. Also in Rashaya are the ruins of a temple from the era of the Roman Empire. In the vicinity of the city, there is the Fakaa forest, which has the status of a protected natural area.

Municipality
The area of ​​​​the municipality of the same name is 67.52 km² (6752 ha). On the territory of the municipality there are 4 schools (3 public and one private), as well as 2 hospitals (public and private).

Second Lebanese War
According to Lebanese media reports, on July 18, 2006, Israeli Air Force planes attacked the church of St. George, located within the city. As a result, five people were injured. A road and a gas station were also destroyed.
