Bayt ed Din

Bait ed-Din (Arabic: بيت الدين‎) is a small city in Lebanon, in the province of Mount Lebanon. The administrative center of the Shuf district.

Geographic location
The city is located in the mountainous area of ​​central Lebanon, approximately 22 kilometers south-southeast (SSE) of the country’s capital, Beirut. The absolute height is 991 meters above sea level.

Sights
The main attraction of the city is the palace of the same name (English) Russian, built by Italian architects on the orders of Emir Bashir Shihab II. Construction began in 1788 and lasted thirty years. The palace was used as a residence both by the emir himself and by the Ottoman administration after his deposition. After the First World War, Bait ed Din was used as the seat of the French administration. In 1934, the palace was declared a historical monument, and in 1943 it became the summer residence of the president of independent Lebanon.
Every year since 1985, in July and August, the palace hosts the Arts Festival (English) Russian, which is one of the most famous cultural events in the Middle East.
