El Harf

Al-Harf (Arabic: الحرف‎) is a small town in northwestern Yemen, in the Amran Governorate. The administrative center of the mudiriya Harf-Sufyan. The population in 2004 was 4146 people.

Climate
The climate of the city is characterized as hot arid (BWh in the Köppen climate classification). The average annual air temperature is 20.6 °C. The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is 16°C, the hottest month (July) is 25.1°C. The estimated long-term precipitation rate is 148 mm.

Geographic location
The city is located in the northeastern part of the governorate, on the eastern slopes of the Sirat Range, at an altitude of 1561 meters above sea level. Al Harf is located approximately 77 kilometers north-northeast (NNE) of Amran, the governorate’s capital, and 100 kilometers north-north-west (NNW) of Sana’a, the country’s capital.
