Tsalka

Tsalka (Georgian წალკა) is a city in southern Georgia, the administrative center of the Tsalka municipality, belongs to the region of Kvemo Kartli.

Etymology
The name Tsalka comes from the ancient Greek language and means “One”.

Geography
The city is located on the southeastern shore of the Tsalka reservoir.
The Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki railway line passes through the city. Near the city is the railway station Tsalka. The city is the capital of the Tsalka administrative region, which includes about 48 villages: Greek, Armenian, Azerbaijani and Georgian. In the past, it was a city inhabited only by Greeks.
The site is located on the Trialeti plateau – approximately 1600 meters above sea level; this means that even in summer the city remains a cool place.

The city has a hydroelectric power station (HPP), located on the shores of Lake Tsalka. The lake in the village of Sanamer is artificial and was created with the aim of electrifying the region. The area is surrounded by mountains and lush forests with a high density of trees.
