Kajaran (Armenian Քաջարան – the abode of the brave) is a city founded in 1958 in the west of the Syunik region in Armenia. Previously, the city was part of the Kafan region of the Armenian SSR. The mayor of the city is Manvel Paramazyan.

Geography
It is located on the eastern slopes of the Zangezur Range to the north of the Meghri Range in the upper reaches of the Okhchi River (close to Voghji). Distance to Kapan — 25 km, to Yerevan — 330 km

Economy
Zangezur copper-molybdenum plant
Kajaran is a major center of mining and non-ferrous metallurgy, the city is home to the Kajaran (Zangezur) copper-molybdenum plant, the largest mining and smelting enterprise in Armenia. The construction of the plant began in 1940, but was suspended due to the war and resumed in 1944. In 1951-1952 it was put into operation. The end products of production are:
– Copper concentrate used for the production of copper, which in turn is used in the electrical industry, alloys (brass, bronze), mechanical engineering, etc.
– Molybdenum concentrate used for the production of molybdenum trioxide. Molybdenum end alloys are used in the aviation industry, nuclear and jet technology.
In 2002, the plant processed 8 million tons of ore, which is about 95% of the design capacity. Currently, only 40% of manufactured products are purchased on the domestic market, the rest is exported.

In 2004, the Armenian government decided to privatize the plant. The investors presented a program according to which both the plant itself and the Yerevan Pure Iron Plant will be re-equipped and modernized, which will make it possible to process all the molybdenum produced in Armenia. The number of jobs in Kajaran is planned to increase from 3,000 to 4,500.

Gas pipeline
At the end of 2008, the last seam of the Kajaran-Ararat pipeline was welded, thanks to which Armenia will receive gas from Iran. The total cost of the project was approximately $130 million.
